Monitieteiset teemat Thule-instituutin uusissa tutkimusryhmissä
Thule-instituutin tutkimusohjelman uudet ryhmät ohjelmakaudelle 2012–2016 on valittu. Tutkimusryhmiä on yhteensä 13 ja ne muodostavat kolme monitieteistä teema-aluetta: globaalimuutos pohjoisessa, sirkumpolaarinen terveys ja hyvinvointi sekä ympäristöteknologia.
Ryhmät tutkivat ilmastonmuutosta ja siihen sopeutumista, luonnonvarojen kestävää käyttöä ja ympäristö- ja energiataloutta pohjoisessa sekä pohjoisen väestöön kohdistuvia riskejä.
Ryhmien valinnasta päätti kansainvälisen arvioinnin pohjalta Thule-instituutin johtokunta. Tutkimusohjelmaan kuuluvat myös instituutissa jo entuudestaan toimivat monitieteisen ympäristötutkimuksen, resurssi- ja ympäristötehokkuuden sekä valuma-aluetutkimuksen ryhmät.

- Research Group on Environmental Catalysis: Sustainable abatement and use of gaseous emissions in process industry (professori Riitta Keiski)
- Unraveling population history, demography and structure for management of northern populations: Molecular ecology meets population biology (dosentti Laura Kvist)
- Rapid environmental changes in the Eurasian Arctic – lessons from the past to the future (professori Juha-Pekka Lunkka, tutkimusprofessori Kari Strand)
- Streams in the landscape: effects of land use on biodiversity and ecosystem processes in boreal streams (professori Timo Muotka), ja Human Impact on Northern Groundwater Resources: Impact of Land-Use and Climate Change on Future Management of Aquifers and Connected Ecosystems (professori Björn Klöve)
- Utilization of chemical nonwood resources in local bioeconomies (professori Jouko Niinimäki)
- Evolutionary approach to trophic interactions under climate change (professori Markku Orell)
- Waste and energy synergy networks in the context of eco-municipalities–Towards resource efficiency in the North (WE2North) (dosentti Eva Pongrácz)
- Structural racism and its impact on Indigenous Health – a comparative study of Canada, Finland and Norway (tutkimusprofessori Arja Rautio)
