Quick propositions from faculties to renew operations structures

The University board decided in the meeting on 18 October to ask the faculties for their plans to develop their administration and operations structures. Structural development plans must be prepared during this autumn. The board will define its policies on structural development in the meeting on 13 December 2012 based on the faculty propositions and internal performance negotiations.

The renewal of the University administration and operational structures has been under preparation during this year in different work groups. Now the propositions of the faculties will be heard; they should follow the strategic policy definitions and ensure balanced operations taking into account the financial situation of the University.

The realization plans for structural development will be made during next spring.

* Interim financial statement is positive
The board discussed the operational and financial situation of the University based on the interim financial statement, and gave guidelines to the profit centres for end of year operations. The board drew attention to directing economical surplus/buffers into productive result-making. The buffers should not exceed 10 per cent of the total funding of the profit centre. Interim financial statement should give the management of the University and the departments a clear picture of the progress of the functions and economy according to set goals, and to assess the possible need for reconstructive actions.

* Less study places in technology
The board set the major subject study places number at 1847 for year 2013. The number means a decrease of 97 starting positions. The reduction mostly affects the technical sciences. In international Masters programmes (18) there will be 350 study places in total. For separate applications ther will be 607 study places in total.
