25.2.2013 Research communities for RAE2013 assessment confirmedThe research communities that have signed up for the RAE2013 total assessment taking place this year have been confirmed. The names and members of the 49 communities are published on the website of the assessment. The research communities are divided evenly in science field specific panels: 19 for the science and technology panel, 18 for the humanities panel, and 18 for the health and biosciences panel. ”Registering for the assessment was a big success, as there are over 2100 researchers and support personnel in the communities. It is nice that the communities are evenly devided between science field panels. It shows that the entire University is eagerly taking part in the assessment”, says research manager Sinikka Eskelinen of the University research services. 44 of the communities are to be assessed in one science field panel. Four communities have signed up for two, and one community for all three sience field panels, so there will be a total of 55 assessment results to be expected. Research communities fall into three separate assessment categories thus: Veni, 16; Vidi, 21; and Vici, 12. Veni is the class for new promising research consortiums and research openings, Vidi is for established communities close to international breakthrough, and Vici is the class for the international top. In the next stage of the assessment the communities will deliver their resumes to the group leaders by the end of February, and their research plan by the end of March. The analysis of the literary output of the communities will be done during spring. Assessment panels are selected by the end of May, and the members are given all the material from the research communities, and the results from the bibliometric analysis for assessment work. The results are expected in early 2014. |
