6.6.2013 Two new centres of excellence for the University of OuluAcademy of Finland has selected 14 new Centres of Excellence in research for the period 2014–2019. From the University of Oulu are included professor Kalevi Mursula’s Centre of Excellence in Research on Solar Long-Term Variability and Effects, and professor Anssi Paasi’s Centre of Excellence in Research on the Relational and Territorial Politics of Bordering, Identities and Transnationalisation. The University of Oulu also participates in two other national Centres of Excellence in research. The new Centres of Excellence represent the cutting edge in their research fields. Centres of Excellence have great potential to achieve significant breakthroughs in their research and be successful in the competition for EU funding and international researchers. A Centre of Excellence (CoE) is a research and training network that has a clearly defined set of research objectives and is run under a joint management. Funding is provided for a six-year term, which means that CoEs can work to long-term plans and take risks. The Academy’s CoE call attracted a total of 128 letters of intent, of which the Academy’s Board selected 34 to submit full applications. The applications were reviewed by international expert panels. |
