11.9.2013 Doctoral Students’ Section establishedA section for doctoral students in the University of Oulu has been established by the Student Union of the University of Oulu (OYY). The decision was made based on a proposal by a general meeting of doctoral students held on August 29th. The goal of the section is to provide a platform for doctoral students of different fields to share their views on UniOGS and other matters related to their doctoral studies. The student representatives of UniOGS committees will be actively taking part in the meeting of the section, which will guarantee that the worries and ideas of those attending the meetings will reach the UniOGS decision-making. “Our goal is to create a strong basis for advocacy of doctoral students. We hope that through the section the doctoral students will have a stronger role in developing UniOGS and the university”, says Teea Palo, who was named as the first chairperson of the new section. The section will gather in its first meeting on September 26th 4 pm at the Student Union office. The meeting is open for all interested doctoral students – OYY membership is not necessary to take part in the meetings. The first meeting will decide on the members of the section and discuss the role of the section and the themes the doctoral students wish to address this autumn. |
