MONDAY 12.10. AT 15:15 A-PAJA AUDITORIUM
Having been established in early 19th century Europe, the art museum is a relatively recent type of cultural institution. Instead of evolving into a cultural relic, the art museum has become an increasingly desirable urban status symbol. The ongoing art museum building boom is not just the result of a ‘love of art’ but of powerful socio-economic forces. What social value, then, do museums continue to hold for society in the present? What emerging relationships might be identified amongst museums, art, and corporate influence? More specifically, what is the relationship between the museum and the art, the container and the contained?
