About the project

The burden of common metabolic disorders – e.g., obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases – is enormous both for individuals and societies. Our team strives to improve understanding of the molecular physiology and disease aetiology underlying common metabolic disorders. To achieve these goals, we take a systems epidemiology approach, i.e., combining genetics, transcriptomics and metabolomics in large-scale population-based cohorts, biobanks and clinical trials. It is becoming apparent that large-scale omics profiling will transform our understanding of diseases and thereby also impact risk assessment, public health and clinical practices towards stratified medicine.
