The research focuses on northern areas and it covers broadly topics of biodiversity. Principal research fields of the museum include floristic inventories of northern Finland, threatened plants and fungi of northern Finland. Besides, the museum contributes to the biodiversity research of northern areas. The research contributes to the Atlas Florae Europaeae and GBIF. Museum researchers collaborate actively in multidisciplinary research projects on biodiversity and conservation.
