Center of Microscopy and Nanotechnology (CMNT) is an institute of the University of Oulu. It was founded in 2011 by joining the Micro- and Nanotechnology Centre and the Institute for Electron Microscopy.
The mission of the Center is to offer cleanroom, research, and analysis services for the departments of the university and industry. Versatile selection of research equipment of the CMNT forms an excellent research environment for carrying out research in the fields of micro and nanotechnology.
Most of the research devices can be used in various fields of empirical science and technology, for example microelectronics, metallurgy, chemistry, physics, and biomedicals. The personnel of the CMNT support researchers by training them to use the devices and by solving problems related to their research work. Center’s equipment is linked to the Finnish FindNano database where research devices and processes available in other Finnish universities and research institutes can be found.
Center of Microscopy and Nanotechnology has also projects with Finnish and foreign universities and institutes. Center participates in the work of many international research associations like SCANDEM (electron microscopy), BIOKON (biomimetics), and EFUG (FIB-technology). CMNT also takes part in the work of innovation centre PrintoCent, which is an organization concentrating on the research of novel applications of printed electronics and optics.
