Nowadays, consumer electronics highly depends on data compression technologies and standards. MPEG-2 cannot fit for many new applications. Therefore, some emerging standards are launched to industry in recent
years.

AVS is one of them with significant advantages that are low cost to manufacture and have excellent performance comparing with its competitors. More than one hundred universities, institutes, and companies collaborate on this standard.

This talk will focus on the video part of this standard. As most current video standards, AVS still adopts the hybrid architecture, but with its special toolbox set.  This talk will present the basic technique and IP issues in this standard.
