The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.
In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.
Degree programme in Intercultural Teacher Education responds to the challenges posed by multiculturalism in the Finnish educational system and provides competences for international tasks in the field of education. The programme qualifies the student as a primary teacher. The main language in this programme is English. It trains students for international educational tasks, and it also provides the qualification of a teacher.
The flexibility of the programme enables specialisation in many kinds of tasks. Teaching of multicultural classes, project management and administration, international consultation, educational policy and administration, and participation in multidisciplinary research projects are just a few examples of such tasks. Similarly to the other teacher education programmes, the education includes studies in education and the various subjects taught at schools as well as teaching practice, part of which can be carried out abroad.

The degree programme is applied for through the joint application system at yliopistohaku.fi. Read more detailed information about admission requirements and applying from the Application Guide 2013 (mostly in Finnish: for Intercultural Teacher Education in English, see pages 13-17)
