The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.
In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.
The prerequisite to obtain a teacher's post in mathematical subjects is a completed Master of Science degree, including studies in two teaching subjects. In addition the student must complete 60 credits of pedagogical studies organized by the Faculty of Education. The pedagogical studies provide the professional competence for teaching and are usually included partly in the Bachelor's and partly in the Master's degree.
The studies in the major teaching subject must contain basic, intermediate and advanced studies, including the Master’s thesis. Applicants have to choose within the programme whether they are applying for the subject teacher training programme in physics, chemistry or mathematics (only one can be chosen). The student selection is made according to the admission requirements. The applicant may only choose a subject for which he/she has received at least the grade magna cum laude approbatur in the Finnish matriculation examination.

The degree programme is applied for through the joint application system at yliopistohaku.fi. The language of instruction in the degree programme is Finnish. Read more detailed information about admission requirements and applying from The Applicant’s Guide 2013.
