The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.
In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.
During the past decades , computer science and engineering has had a significant impact into our daily lives. The development continues and soon computers will not be used as separate devices anymore but will instead blend into our living environments and offer us rich sets of services through natural and intuitive user interfaces. Graduates from computer science and engineering will play a key role in this development.
We offer for you an excellent opportunity to build your skills and knowledge, especially in mathematics and natural sciences, in problem solving – and naturally in computer science and engineering. You can specialize based on your interest, for example, in intelligent systems and techniques like artifical intelligence and digital signal processing. Another option is to specialize in designing embedded systems for mobile phones, cars, wearable devices, for example; or you can decide to become a specialist that uses fundamental knowledge of computing in the real world, to solve real-world problems for real companies, special groups, and individuals.
The graduates’ employment rate is excellent and the studies prepare you for a large variety of jobs. You might develop new computational methods, or build novel software or large networked systems. In addition to design tasks, you might lead a large development project, or work in marketing, for example. The research in computer science and engineering at the University of Oulu has been acknowledged of its internationally high quality. You can continue studies after M.Sc. degree, work as a researcher in one of the research groups and target a Ph.D. degree. Working abroad is common as well.
