The University of Oulu offers study opportunities with a solid academic foundation ranging from 5-6 year degree programmes and master’s programmes to doctoral training. There are also several possibilities such as open university studies, executive training and continuing education for developing and maintaining skills and competencies.
In addition to a variety of student exchange programmes, international master’s degree programmes in English are offered in six fields of study, making the university an international study environment.
Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM) is a degree programme in engineering discipline. The IEM combines technical knowledge, economic methods and the understanding of human behavior. In IEM program students learn to study and develop artifacts from these viewpoints. Students will first take undergraduate studies to obtain a BSc (technology) degree, which will be the base for the MSc studies.
The courses provided by the Department of IEM aim at improvement of productivity, quality and well being at work taking into account the good practices of sustainable development. Students can choose his or her scope of interest. Available interest areas are: production management, technology management, project and quality management, and usability and well being at work. Students will select their technical disciplines from those provided by the University of Oulu and in some cases from those available in other universities either in Finland or abroad.
The department of DIEM has partners in various locations in Europe, Asia and America. Studies in those universities are encouraged to be included in the degree. The students specialize also at the final stage of studies by completing the Master’s thesis. It is an independent project lasting about six months. It is typically carried out in collaboration with various stakeholders of the University like industrial companies, service firms or public sector organizations.
Part of the instruction at Master's level is in English.
