The activities aim at the development of circuits and devices for the generation and detection of high-speed optical transients and to the accurate measurement of the time intervals between these transients, and also to apply the developed techniques for optoelectronic measurements. More specifically, the techniques to be developed are:
- accurate time interval measurement techniques and circuits (time-to-digital converters, TDC)
- accurate timing of high-speed optical transients, also single photon detection mode and single photon detectors are studied.
- generation of optical transients using high-speed laser diodes based on “enhanced gain switching”
- high-speed electrical pulse generation with Si and GaAs transistors.
The above techniques and circuits/devices are currently applied to the development of new generations of pulsed time-of-flight laser radar and time-gated Raman spectrometer techniques.
