International Science University

According to the Strategy of the University of Oulu, the objective of the University is to promote internationally high-level free research, education and culture, to strengthen the knowhow that creates well-being, and to assure the availability of highly qualified work force and researcher base in our sphere of influence.

The University of Oulu seeks to be an attractive science university with results, and aspires to a leading position in innovation activities. The goal will be reached through strategic means:

  1. Internationally high-level scientific profile

The selected, internationally evaluated focus areas and development areas of research are multidisciplinary and of high quality. The University researches people and culture in a changing living environment, as well as opportunities that new technology provides for improving the well-being of people and the environment. Education from the University of Oulu is based on latest research knowledge. The University of Oulu is an expert in Northerness.

  1.  Active partnership and influence

The innovation activities of the University are based on research emphasis and long-term cooperation with the business life and research institutions. Innovation activity is strongly organized around the innovation alliance of the Oulu region. Contacts with business life are continually increasing, and the enterprise viewpoint is applied in research and education activities. Professional planning of education allows for quicker graduation into work life.

  1. Creative scientific community and strong finance

Intrest-free basic research and interscientific discussion is the core strength of the University. Research units turn into more multidisciplinary, large and international units. The scientific community becomes multicultural, and many Master’s degree trainings are in English.

The University Strategy is implemented by a wide actions programme of education, research, internationalization, enterprise promotion, and support functions.
