Societal and Economic Engagement

According to the university law, Finnish universities have to engage with the surrounding society while executing research and educational assignments.

Universities have to promote societal and economic engagement of the achieved scientific results. Also life-long learning has to be sustained.

University of Oulu is an internationally outstanding and attractive science university, which has a distinctive and ambitious research profile and which produces socially impactful research. Research work is conducted in a creative environment of multidisciplinary research centres and networks, Centres of Excellence designated by the Finnish Academy of Sciences, Nordic Centres of Excellence, and Internal Centres of Excellence.

Basic research is closely linked to key partner's objectives and scope for application. Joint organisations with key partners are operating based on strategic partnerships.

University of Oulu has done pioneering work in cooperation with the sectoral research institutes, of which Northern Environmental Research Network (NorNet) is an example. According to University of Oulu strategy, cooperation with sectoral research institutes is a focal point and crucial development area.
