Alumni Activities

As you graduate, you will become an alumna or alumnus of the University of Oulu. All graduates with a Bachelor’s, Master’s or a Doctoral Degree are alumni.

Altogether, the University of Oulu alumni body is over 40 000 and each year, 1 500 new alumni join the group.

The University wants to maintain a lasting relationship with its alumni and also help the alumni network with each other. During your studies, you should get to meet graduates from your own department and hear about their study choices, how they found their first job and career path.

Networking with alumni brings you knowledge, expertise and insight that you can only get from an alumnus/alumna. Get involved! Remember, that you can initiate alumni activities yourself, too.

When you are near graduation, you can participate in the mentoring programme: an alumnus/alumna will guide a graduating student to become aware of his/her strengths and opportunities as well as career strategies. Contact your study advisor to find out how alumni and students are brought together in your department!

How to participate in alumni activities?

  • Find out how the Student Union and your guild are dealing with alumni relations.
  • Partipate in alumni days and lectures during studies.
  • Paricipate in the mentoring programme (Coordinated by Career Services)
  • Initiate new alumni activities
  • Upon graduation, register in the alumni network here. The alumni network is an online communication tool for all alumni and the University.

Registering and using the network is free of charge.

Whether you notice it or not, you are building your future alumni network well before graduating. Alumni activities are first and foremost about maintaining contacts, building a network and broadening your opportunities. As an alumnus/alumna, you can participate in various alumni events.

Continue sharpening your expertise by attending updating education courses. You might come back to your home department to deliver a lecture or participate in a career session for students.

You might want to recruit graduates from your own degree programme. And – you might be elected the Alumni of the Year of the University of Oulu.
