University of Oulu Scholarship Foundation granted scholarships totalling €150.000

The Scholarship Foundation of the University of Oulu granted its scholarships for the year 2010 on June 8th. The scholarship fund was worth €150.000 and altogether 56 recipients were awarded this year.

Also 20 international Master’s students were awarded a scholarship of €1000 each on the basis of their academic success in the University of Oulu. The scholarships for the international Master’s students will be an annual tradition from now on. “This is a great opportunity to communicate about the internationality of our university and show our international students how important they are to the whole community,” said Vice-rector Olli Silvén who hosted the ceremony.

Master student Lissette Van Tassel from Canada spoke at the ceremony and expressed her happiness on receiving the scholarship. "This was such a great surprise to me. Receiving the scholarship made me feel that I am appreciated in this university." Lissette is planning on using the scholarship for her living expenses in Oulu.

Canadian biochemistry student Lissette Van Tassel was awarded for her academic success with a €1000 scholarship. “In July I will be spending my five week holiday home in Toronto,” Van Tassel tells.

Van Tassel is finishing her Master thesis on cancer research. She is planning on staying in Oulu for her PhD studies.

The Scholarship Foundation of the University of Oulu was founded in 1960. Its purpose is to support and promote University of Oulu and the student union. The foundation’s fund consists of the general fund and 24 separate funds.
