Oulu alumnus appointed rector of Ethiopian university

The Education Minister of Ethiopia has appointed Oulu University alumnus Dr. Baylie Damtie as rector of Bahir Dar University.

Dr. Damtie defended his doctoral thesis on new incoherent scatter radar measurement techniques and data analysis methods in the Physics Department of the University of Oulu in 2004.

After his dissertation Damtie returned to Ethiopia. He continues to cooperate with the Sodankylä Geophysical Observatory and the Space Physics group of the University of Oulu, and has founded a space physics and radar technology laboratory in Bahir Dar.
