Outi Savolainen appointed Dean of the University of Oulu Graduate School

Professor Outi Savolainen has been appointed Dean of the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS) from 1 August 2011 to 31 December 2013.

Professor Savolainen has worked as professor of genetics in the Biology department of the University since 1990. She defended her Doctor's thesis in the University of California in 1980. Prof. Savolainen is the head of the national Population Genetics Graduate School and also takes part in international graduate education functions.

University of Oulu Graduate School starts on 1 August this year. The school incorporates the current doctoral programmes and international master's degree programmes in the University of Oulu, and thus covers all postgraduate students in the university.

The aim of the Graduate School is to improve the quality and visibility of research in the university. It will promote multidisciplinary research and remove overlapping. The new system will also present postgraduate students with improved direction and courses related to doctoral studies.
