University of Oulu to collaborate with Shanghai Jiao Tong University

University of Oulu is widening its partner network in China by signing a student exchange agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) on June 21. The agreement covers the computer science and engineering field of both Universities. Department of Electrical and Information Engineering will be divided into three separate Departments in autumn 2011. After this, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (Dept. CSE Oulu) will be the responsible site of the agreement at the University of Oulu.

The goal of the agreement is to organize Dept. CSE Oulu students one or two term exchanges to the sister Department in Shanghai and vice versa. The credits the students obtain during the exchange will be approved in their degree studies at the University of Oulu. Once the student exchange has become established, the collaboration is intended to be widened into international Master programmes and even double degrees.

The roots for the collaboration between University of Oulu and SJTU have been laid in a joint research project within the Academy of Finland´s MOTIVE research programme. Professors Jukka Riekki and Mika Ylianttila together with Professor Minyi Guo´s group have developed software for future advanced pervasive services, where the services will adapt into the situation and goals of the user.
