The University of Oulu strengthens its research profile by recruiting top researchers
The University of Oulu has initiated a programme for recruiting absolute top level researchers from abroad.
The first stage of the international search is for top researchers in the focus and development areas of the University. These are biosciences and health, information technology, cultural identity and interaction, environment, natural resources and materials, economics and research based teacher education. There are up to ten researcher vacancies to be filled.
Through the new recruiting programme the University of Oulu introduces the so-called tenure track model, with guaranteed employment and advancement in the academic career for successful researchers. The career steps are: postdoctoral researcher, university researcher, professor, and distinguished professor. Advancing through the stages takes place after careful international scientific assessment.
"With the recruiting programme the University of Oulu jumps in with tough international competition for top researchers. It gives us the chance to significantly strengthen and renew our research environments", says Vice Rector for research, Taina Pihlajaniemi. "We hope that the search will attract exceptional researchers to Oulu from all over the World".
"This is one of the positive cosequences of the current Universities Act", says University research services chief Sinikka Eskelinen.
The search is open until October 2012, and both Finnish and foreign researchers may apply.
