University of Oulu Student Financial Aid Committee

The work of the Student Financial Aid Committee is premised on the Student Financial Aid Act (65/1994) and Decree (260/1994). The University of Oulu appoints the Committee for a term of two years. Half of the members must be University staff (teachers or officials) and the other half must be students.

The duties of the Student Financial Aid Committee, as prescribed by law, include monitoring the study progress of students and determining whether the extent of summer studies or studies abroad undertaken by students is such that it warrants student financial aid. Furthermore, the Committee must establish permanent guidelines on the handling and resolving of issues concerning student financial aid.

Guidelines concerning which matters are to be handled at the meetings of the Student Financial Aid Committee and which matters are to be delegated to the Student Financial Aid Office are designated in the regulations governing the work of the Committee. The Committee must, for example, resolve all issues concerning the suspension of financial aid, the recovery of overpaid benefits and the rejection of financial aid applications in cases in which the students have not progressed in their studies adequately. The Student Financial Aid Committee must also process all applications for extension of student financial aid.
