Free Open University Courses for Degree and Exchange Students
Degree students at the University of Oulu may complete language and minor subject studies included in their degrees at the Open University. These courses are free for the student provided that the his/her faculty has recognised and approved the courses provided by the Open University as part of the degree programme and has committed to paying for the courses on the student's behalf. Students with permission to take free Open University courses must provide information on the Faculty’s commitment to payment and which degree programme (or major subject in the Faculty of Humanities) they are studying at as well as the name of the person who made the commitment to payment. This information should appear in the Open University registration form. If the faculty has not agreed to pay for the courses, the students themselves must pay.
Language Studies and Open University Courses in Summer
In addition to the language studies offered by the Language Centre, degree students may complete language courses as Open University studies at the Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia (PPKYO). The courses offered also include Finnish as a foreign language for exchange students. In addition to language studies, the Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia offers also other open university studies in the summertime.
- The amount of places on the courses is limited.
- The places are filled in order of registration.
- There is a cancellation fee set by the Summer University of Northern Ostrobothnia.
- Students register for the courses via electronic registration form
- Registration through WebOodi is not possible.
- Classes are held in the evening at Linnanmaa.
- The courses are free for students under the aforementioned payment conditions.
When registering for the course the student must provide information as described above. If the faculty has not agreed to pay for the courses, the students themselves must pay. Students studying in degree programmes (BSc, BA, BEd) at the University of Oulu may also complete other general and basic studies courses included in their degree programme at the Open University. These courses are free for the student provided that the his/her faculty has recognised and approved the courses provided by the Open University as part of the degree programme and has committed to paying for the courses on the student's behalf. Students register for Open University courses by filling in an online registration form available at https://webcgi.oulu.fi/avoin/ilmoittautuminen. WebOodi registration is not possible for these studies. When registering the student must provide information on the Faculty’s commitment to payment and which degree programme (or major subject in the Faculty of Humanities) they are studying at as well as the name of the person who made the commitment to payment. The Open University bills the student's faculty on the basis of the given information.
