Erasmus Work Placement

The European Commission has launched new actions in the Erasmus programme. In addition to the traditional student exchange you as a student have now a new opportunity to do practical training abroad with the support of an Erasmus grant.

The higher education institutions of Oulu together with the City of Oulu have established an Erasmus Placement Consortium to encourage outgoing student to do their practical training in the EU, the EEA or Turkey so called Erasmus countries. If you are a full-time degree student from the University of Oulu and fill the Erasmus requirements, you can apply for an Erasmus grant from the Consortium.

Erasmus Requirements

  • is for basic degree students and postgraduate degree students
  • training period can range from 3 to 12 months, working ours at least 30 /week
  • the training must be included in your studies (practical training abroad may be credited to other study modules if your degree does include training, at least training should be mentioned in your Diploma Supplement)
  • Erasmus grant is not allowed: EU organisations, EU programms, embassys
  • student has to return the training certificate and complete all the required reporting
  • student has not previously completed a work placement period supported by the University or CIMO


Grants

  • The grant for unpaid traineeships:
    400 euros a month (3 first months) and 200 euros a month (for the remaining months)
  • For paid traineeships:
    200 euros a month If the remuneration is 1 000 euros or more (per month) the student is no longer entitled to the Erasmus placement grant. (N.B. The length of the Erasmus traineeship may be 12 months, but the grant will be paid for 9 months at the maximum.)
  • The Erasmus grant paid in two parts. First part (80% of the grant) is paid before the actual training time and the second part (20% of the grant) is paid after you have returned the training certificate and completed all the required reporting.
  • In addition to the Erasmus grant, the student may apply for a separate, university specific grant, 600 euros (paid once).

Application Process

Call for applications for Erasmus exchanges for the academic year 2013-2014 is opened.

Online system SoleMOVE with enclosures is available soon. Before using SoleMOVE system, fill in Placement Agreement 13-14 (found from Forms page) on paper and return it to Student Center, Anne Jurvakainen, Room KE1011.

The placement must be acquired before applying for Erasmus grant.
