Today the Oulu region and Northern Finland are one of the most innovative regions in European Union.  Our vision for the University of Oulu is to be an attractive and successful science university and a pioneer for innovations. 

The significance of the University of Oulu as a circumpolar multidisciplinary expert strengthens while international interest focuses more and more on northern areas. Globalisation, climate change and natural resources is putting more focus on the Northern regions. Significant new utilisation possibilities are offered by the prospects of the mining and mineral field, nuclear energy, bioeconomics and logistics in Northern Finland.
