Oulu Region is today the most innovative area in the entire Europe with the RTD input of 13.0% of the regional GDP. The Oulu Innovation Ecosystem is the result of long-term collaboration between academia, research institutes, public organizations and industry. Our university aims to promote and guide this partnership to a more international direction.

University of Oulu is recognized as one of the three innovation universities in Finland together with Aalto University and the Tampere University of Technology. Scientists on the payroll submit annually over 50 invention disclosures and several priority patent applications.  All in all the university have 68 licence, option, transfer or technology sale contracts. Over 40 new spin-off companies has seen the light of day.
