I give my Christmas Greetings to all the members of our scientific community in the University of Oulu, and I thank you for the passing year.
The year 2011 was the second year into the new University Act. The functions of the University have been developed and made more efficient according to the renewed strategy. Structures have been renewed so that they will better support the main tasks of the University: scientific research and the connected teaching.
We should be happy about having succeeded together in balancing our economy sooner than planned, while improving our productivity in comparison to other universities. This shows in the growth of our influence and the quality of our functions.
The Ministry of Education and Culture mentions in their feedback how financially stable our University is, and how we are improving in many central areas.
We live in difficult and unpredictable times. However, we now stand much better to face the upcoming year than we did two years ago.
