History of Science and Ideas

Landmarks of Science is an extensive collection of microfom books and journals. The collection contains seminal texts, mostly in original languages, from more than 2700 different authors and it sheds light on the development of Western science from antiquity until the end of the 19th century. The material covers various branches of natural sciences and medicine, and history and philosophy of science are also represented. The collection offers the researcher or the student a unique opportunity to consult works which would otherwise be impossible to obtain in Oulu. The collection and the equipment needed for reading the material can be found at the Department of History.

Finnish and Scandinavian History

Finnish and Scandinavian history has a complete collection of printed parliamentary documents of Finland from the period of four-chamber Diet till the present day. In addition CD-ROM copies of the Land Books (tax registers) of Lapland (years 1709-1809) have been acquired from the National Archives of Sweden.

General history

General history has both printed and microfilmed primary sources.

Printed / published primary source collections are sited in the Snellmania library of the Faculty of Humanities and can be loaned out. Microfilmed collections are placed at the department of history (see above).
