Studies

S2 subject is aimed at the students speaking Finnish as their first language and who study Finnish as their major or minor subject. Students with Finnish Language as their major subject automatically have the right to study S2 as their minor subject. The major subject students of literature at the University of Oulu can also opt to choose S2 freely as their minor subject. Students of other subjects need to pass the Finnish Language entrance examination held annually around June in order to study S2.

S2 studies (60 credits) can be completed in two years; Basic studies (25 credits) during the first year and Intermediate studies (35 credits) during the second year. Courses require a lot of independent studying under guidance.

Studying includes learning in classes, exercises, book exams and web based courses in the Optima learning environment. The web is from the very beginning of the studies an important environment for studying, reporting, and self reflection. Each student will have his/her own net based study portfolio that collects the works written by the student. Training in work can be done either in the job the student has found in Finland or during the student exchange period abroad.
