Important information for a new student: about user account and email!
Student account is your key to systems and services of the University. The same account is used in some external services too. In that case it has to be written in different form, but the password is the same.

The account, e-mail and the licence to use the programs will cease when your studying or your employment ends. You will get a message about the termination to your e-mail beforehand.
Your password is valid for one year (before March 2018 the validity was half a year). You get an email note before expiration. If you do not change the password during that period, it will expire and the account will be locked. In that case, activate the account (= set a new password) in a self-service.
At the beginning of March 2018 a new practice will come into force: the password must be at least 12 and no more than 32 characters long. It consists of upper and lower-case letters and numbers, but the Scandinavian letters cannot be used and the special characters cause problems.
By using self-services, you can check the status of your username and can set a password for it. You can also set a mobile number or activate an OTP application for VPN use. Suomi.fi e-Identification of the public administration is used in these self-services.
