Printing guidelines

Log in print devices with your user account or with a rfid identifier which has been registered in the system. You can print using the workstations of the University or your own devices and send an attachment to the mobile print queue. Releasing the print or copy always decreases your printing quota, scanning is free of charge.

Canon Oy is taking care of guidance and all the maintenance related with printing services. You will find the contact information here.

Quick Instuctions in size A3 are put in sight to the vicinity of all Canon devices. Guides for all models: http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010763.asp.

IT Administration Services has made these additional guidelines:

Canon has made educational videos of some of the above mentioned subjects. They are found from here (use your user account to login).

Rfid and registration

To use print service you need to log in using your university user account and password. Type your account at Canon devices as well as in Webstore always in form account (at) student. You have to log into printing device every time you need to release your prints, scan or copy. You do not need to type your user account and the password after you have registered a rfid identifier (card or sticker) into your use; it is easier to log in just showing your rfid in card reader.

Watch the video:

  • "Registration of the identifier before the first usage"
  • select a device-specific version of the video: computer or mobile
  • use your user account to login

Printing from workstation

You can print from computers for student use using secure print queues:

  • There are several queues, which have been named Studentprint
  • You can use whichever of them
  • When printing from workstations, default setting is set to print black-and-white on both sides of A4 paper. On workstation you can choose other settings too.

It is possible to release the print at any Canon printer within the service:

  • There are several secure printers on Linnanmaa Campus
  • Releasing the print is always decreasing your printing quota

Watch the video:

  • "Printing and releasing the print"
  • select a device-specific version of the video: computer or mobile
  • use your user account to login

Printing from mobile device

You can send your file to Studentprint queue from laptop, tablet, smart phone or home computer using O365 e-mail service offered by the University.

Send the file you want to print out by email to: mprints (at) oulu.fi  as an attachment

  • Sending is allowed only from email address which have oulu.fi ending (students using O365 and the staff), attachments from other email addresses are not printed!
  • Supported file formats are: doc, docx, jpeg, jpg, xls, xlsx, pdf, ppt, pptx, rtf, txt. If a file contains macros, the printing of it will not necessarily succeed because of the virus filtration of the e-mail system.
  • If the file is coloured, it will be coloured in queue too. When relesing it (=print on paper) you may decide to print it black-and-white instead of colors.
  • The message and attachments will appear in print queue as separate files. You decide which of them will be released (=printed on paper). Read more: Logging into Canon device and releasing your print.
  • Releasing the print is always decreasing your printing quota

Watch the video:

  • "Mobile printing"
  • select a device-specific version of the video: computer or mobile
  • use your user account to login

Logging into Canon device and relesing your print

When your print is in queue, log in and release the output at any Canon printer within the service:

  • How to log in the printing device: Log in with rfid identifier or use user account when printing, copying or scanning
  • When you release the output, it will be printed on paper and removed from the queue (Secure Print > Print+Delete). This decreases your printing quota.
  • You can remove the output from the queue if you decide not to print it (Secure Print > Delete). No affect to your printing quota.
  • The output will be removed automatically after 4 hours if you did not release it. No affect to your printing quota.
  • Remember always to log out: Log out

Watch the video:

  • "Printing and releasing the print"
  • select a device-specific version of the video: computer or mobile
  • use your user account to login

Buying of quota in webstore

You can buy more quota only in webstore:

  • Information about printing quota =(basic+additional) and what you may print with your basic quota from here
  • Check out prices of printing before you log into webstore
  • Login into webstore using your user account and type it in form account@student
  • It is possible to charge your quota from 5 to 20 € at one time
  • You can pay with a credit card or through Finnish internet banking
  • It is possible that an other which sits in your side takes care of paying
  • Read: Webstore guidelines
  • Your additional quota that was not used during the term will be preserved for the next terms

Printing of large documents

  • Print a large document in smaller parts
  • Notice that you can print no more than your printing quota shows
  • Choose a fast working and big device from where you release your print
  • If your print is taking more than 9 minutes, the device will log you out and the print will be interrupted. To avoid this, go and touch the screen of the device to get 9 minutes more.
  • To get large prints, approach printing houses, like Juvenes Print

Special materials and Multi-purpose Tray

  • Special materials are e.g. transparencies, sticker sheets, coloured papers and thick papers
  • The copying on special material is possible using only the Multi-purpose Tray
  • The printing on special material others than the transparency, is possible using only the Multi-purpose Tray
  • The printing on the transparency is not possible but you can first print your work on the paper and then copy it on the transparency
  • NOTE: Use only transparencies which have been meant for copying. For example the transparencies for OHP are not suitable for this purpose for the sake of melting danger

At the Canon device:

  • The Multi-purpose Tray is usually located on the right side of the device (see the model-specific instructions: http://software.canon-europe.com/products/0010763.asp)
  • Open the Multi-purpose Tray and set the special material on it
  • The device is asking for the size and type of material, set them using the touch screen and press OK
  • Copy at the device or print at the workstation

At the workstation:

  • Switch to the properties of the printer from the print menu and set Multi-purpose Tray as the Paper Source, save the change with the OK button
  • Print your file on the special material
