A) YOU WILL ACTIVATE THE O365 SERVICE BY ACCEPTING TERMS OF USE
- Read terms of use by Microsoft Ltd.
- Read terms of use for Office 365 Online Service provided by University of Oulu using your student account and password.
- Read first Activation guide, and follow it step by step; only so the activation procedure could succeed.
- During the activation procedure the system will show your new email address, please write it down.
- Please remember that your email address is not an O365 username. Please come back to this site after activation procedure and then continue reading guidelines "After activating" to learn more about e.g. your username.
- Log in the Activation form by using your student account and password, and follow the activation guide step by step.
After activating:
- Wait for a moment: You can use the service after an hour and your email will be forwarded after two hours to your new address.
- Your username to O365 service is based on your university student account and is in form: account(at)student.oulu.fi and password is password of your student account as well.
- Please note that service's username could be used as an email address, but your other email addresses can not be used as an username.

- Incoming messages of your old email address account (at) mail.student.oulu.fi or account (at) paju.oulu.fi and will be forwarded after two hours to your new address in O365. After two hours you may check if there came any messages in Webmail before forwarding.
- To get started with Outlook email read this short guide: Get started with Outlook in page O365 service's guidelines. Please note that after activation you can log in the service at least after an hour.
- After a hour you can use the service through the portal: http://o365.oulu.fi or https://outlook.com/student.oulu.fi using O365 username. You can use one or the other of addresses. If you like to save address as a bookmark or as a favorite in browser, be sure the address is saved as shown above. Otherwise the authentication will fail and pages will not open.
- After a hour you may use O365 Web Apps: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Lync as well as calendar and SkyDrive through the portal.
Please notice these things:
- Your new email address is as a rule firstname.lastname (at) student.oulu.fi. If there exists an other user with the same name, your address is firstname.x.lastname (at) student.oulu.fi. Read more: O365 email addresses. Your new email address was shown on screen during the activating procedure.
- Also your username of O365 service could be used as an email address, but when using it or old email addresses of Paju, messages will be forwarded to an new one. Update your new email address in information services and lists you are using. For example WebOodi, read QuickGuide to update personal data.
- Your student account and it's password are the same as earlier. Use them when logging in University's information services and workstations. Single sign-on is in use on workstations within Student domain, so you do not need to login / logoff in O365 service.
- Copy your old messages from Paju server if you will need them later. After October you cannot use email services of Paju server any more. Go to page: Paju email transfer.
Any problems?
- If you meet problems with logging into O365 service after activation and one-hour wait, first check out your username for the service. Be sure you do not try to login using your other email addresses.
- General advice: update your web browser to the newest one, clear cache memory.
- If you are using a bookmark to open service's logging page, be sure that the address in your bookmark is: http://o365.oulu.fi or https://outlook.com/student.oulu.fi.
- You could find a solution by reading a document "Frequently Asked Questions" on the O365 guidelines page.
- If still needed contact our Helpdesk by email or phone or visiting Helpdesk in Student Center.
B) YOU DO NOT ACTIVATE THE O365 SERVICE
You can do it later too, but in the meanwhile please notice these things:
- University's old email service of Paju server will be closed in the end of October and your email address in Paju server will be expired too.
- Purchase a new external email address and update your new email address in information services and mail lists you are using. For example: WebOodi, read QuickGuide to update personal data.
- Your student account and it's password are the same as earlier. Use them when logging in University's information services and workstations.
- Copy your old emails from Paju server if you will need them later. After October you cannot use email services of Paju server any more. Go to page: Paju email transfer.
