Academic Calendar
The Finnish academic year consists of two semesters. The first, autumn semester, starts in mid-August or early September and ends in mid-December. The second, spring semester, begins in early January and ends in May. For more specific dates for courses please contact the departmental coordinators.
Academic Year 2009-2010
Fall Semester 2009
- Official Arrival Dates September 4-6.
N.B. Housing will not be available before the official arrival dates. If you choose to arrive earlier you need to make your own housing arrangements for the additional days.
- Orientation September 7-9
- Independence Day December 6 (national holiday)
- Semester Ends approximately December 15 (check the specific date with the departmental coordinator)
Spring Semester 2010
- Official Arrival Dates January 4-5.
N.B. Housing will not be available before the official arrival date. If you choose to arrive earlier you need to make your own housing arrangements for the additional days.
- Orientation January 7-8
- January 6 (national holiday)
- Winter Holiday week 10 (not applicable in all faculties)
- Easter April 2-5
- May Day May 1 (national holiday)
- Semester ends approximately May 31
Exceptions:
- In the Faculty of Medicine teaching begins already in August. The Faculty's exchange coordinator will inform those whose studies begin in August of the official date. If you are uncertain when your studies begin, please contact the departmental coordinator!
