Housing for exchange students is arranged through the Student Housing Foundation of Northern Finland (PSOAS). Exchange students apply for housing by filling in the electronic housing application form.
Students applying to the Kajaani University Consortium, please fill in a housing application for Kajaani campus at KOA.
The student residence halls are situated on Linnanmaa campus. Students can be housed also in other locations. Linnanmaa is about 6 kilometres away from the Centre of Oulu. The bus connections to the Centre are good. Near the residence halls there is a small shopping centre with two grocery stores, a post office, pharmacy and pizzerias. Most of the flats have either two or four bedrooms with a shared kitchen and bathroom. Tenants take personal responsibility of the cleanliness of the kitchen, bathroom, and their own room. There are two saunas, with separate bathing times for men and women as well as two laundry rooms shared by all residents in the residence halls. The shared premises are kept in order by the tenants themselves.
Most of the rooms are furnished. There are not kitchen utensils, pillows, blankets, bed linnen or towels. Please, be prepared to bring or buy these items yourself. However, there might be some extra things in some of the rooms left by the previous tenant.
Reservations are always made from the beginning of the month of your arrival to the end of the month of your departure. After the arrival, you can still change dates for your rental period to the tenancy agreement. All the rents for the entire signed rental period of the tenancy agreement must be paid regardless of your departure. Note that because the tenancy agreement is for fixed term, you cannot change it after you have signed it in Oulu. Tenants have a right to extend the tenancy agreement by informing about it one month earlier.
The rent is paid monthly, starting
from the month you have made the reservation.
The rent is always paid for the whole month regardless
of the date of arrival or the date of departure. ISEP students and students coming from Washington College
and UNCG within the bilateral agreements have paid their
rent beforehand in their home country.
