Currently, we have over 150 voluntary Kummi Families in the Oulu area. The families are of many different kinds: young and old couples, families with or without children and families with just one parent. All of them are interested in foreign cultures and sharing their time with an international student.
The most natural way to get to know Finnish culture is to spend some time with a Finnish family in their everyday family activities. Kummi Families and their international students do many interesting things together, for example, they cook together, tour the city and visit culture events, go skating, hiking, ice-fishing and some even go ice-swimming. You might also be introduced to the Finnish sauna. However, families are not expected to arrange special program for the student, and therefore, the things done together will depend on the resources and interests of the family and the student.
