All faculties and their departments offer courses in English. The first semester starts in September (Medicine: in August) and ends in mid-December. The second semester starts in January and ends mid-May.
Finnish language courses are offered by the Language Center varying from survival courses to courses on advanced level. The Scandinavian Studies Programme (non-degree programme, runs Sept-Dec) is open to all exchange students regardless of their previous studies or major.
As you plan your study options, please note that the departments wish to discuss exchange students' choices case by case. Please contact their international coordinators or International Relations for more information.
Teaching methods vary from department to department, but in general the study system is based on lectures, seminars and/or small-group tutorials. Practical or laboratory work is also possible. Typically, students take exams after each course, and write essays and journals. Web-based learning environments are widely used in teaching.
Exchange student can be eligible to take studies from the Master's Programme taught in English. More information on degree programmes.
