Northern Nature and Environment Studies are arranged by the Department of Biology at the Faculty of Science. The studies provide a solid introduction to the northern ecosystems and their functioning, and the fauna, flora, vegetation of Finland and Northern Scandinavia. Presenting nature and its biodiversity, and genetic adaptation to the north, the programme consists of lectures, courses and seminars held in Oulu and field courses arranged at the University’s research station in Northern Finland. Courses are arranged during the autumn and spting semesters and there are also courses during the summer.
Participants collect 15-45 ECTS (10-30 US credits) from the different subject areas according to their own interests and periods of stay. Finnish Biology students participate in the courses along with the exchange students from Europe, North-America, Asia and Australia.
The programme is intended for students who have studied biology for two years or more.
