eduroam is a world-wide roaming project with which members of organisations belonging to eduroam can log in to the wireless networks of other eduroam member organisations using their home organisation user IDs.
The eduroam network operating at the premises of the University of Oulu offers the staff of the University the same services (Internet connection + local area network services) as the late univ-staff network. Other users are mainly offered Internet access.
The network uses WPA2/AES encryption, and using the network requires logging in with either user-specific or computer-specific IDs. The valid user IDs for eduroam are the IDs to the IT Services’ computer systems in the form userid@cc.oulu.fi and userid@student.oulu.fi.
In the WLAN network the WLAN client is allocated IP settings by a DHCP server.
The use of the WLAN is governed by the Rules for the Use of Wireless Local Area Networks and other rules and policies pertaining to the computer network of the University. These can be referred to at the University information security website.
