The Oulu University network is connected to the Finnish University Network (FUNET) and therefore is part of an international Internet network. This fast data communication network serves the Finnish scientific community, interconnecting over 80 research organizations in Finland. Funet also provides its user organizations with data links to the global Internet network through the pan-Scandinavian NORDUnet network.

eduroam WLAN

eduroam is a world-wide roaming project with which members of organisations belonging to eduroam can log in to the wireless networks of other eduroam member organisations using their home organisation user IDs.

VPN

With the VPN remote access service the users can access remotely e.g. the University intranet and their home directories on the disk servers.

With this service, it is also possible to access external web services that can normally only be used with the workplace terminal.
Accessing certain services remotely requires signing a strong user authentication agreement. This is required for the remote accessing of e.g. one’s own terminal and University Administration services.
