In his thesis Petteri Ponsimaa found out, that shopping history information both interests the customers and increases their understanding of their own shopping behavior.
Ponsimaa made his work at the University of Oulu INTERACT Research Unit focusing on user-oriented and value-based approach to technology design.
"The thesis is well-timed, as the public debate on the subject has been lively after the retail chain S-Ryhmä made a decision to invest in shopping data. This paper investigates how consumers themselves can benefit from the collected information. The perspective is different from the one where the purchase history information is studied for finding out how the companies benefit of the data in their business", says the thesis supervisor, Professor of Information Systems Minna Isomursu.
SIGCHI Finland Association (www.sigchi.fi) promotes research and education in the interaction between human and computer, and connects people interested in the field in Finland. The association is part of the international ACM SIGCHI, the most important international organization in the field.
Ponsimaa was handed his award on October 7 at SIGCHI Finland Association 15th Anniversary at Aalto University.
