The objective of PoP is to support the commercialization of research results, particularly in the field of ICT, and the development of new research-based business. The aim is also to create a university culture in which the commercialization of research results is seen as a positive asset, and the entrepreneurship is viewed as an attractive career option.
Janne Haverinen received his doctor of technology degree in the University of Oulu in 2004. His research topics covered pattern recognition, machine learning, and robotics. After dissertation, he continued as an acting professor and researcher at the University of Oulu until he moved as CEO of IndoorAtlas - the company he founded in 2012. The first contact with entrepreneurship was when Haverinen started as CTO and CEO of Nelilab, which he founded together with his university colleagues in 2006.
IndoorAtlas is a company that provides an indoor position service as a platform to global customers such as Baidu and Yahoo! Japan. Haverinen served as IndoorAtlas CEO until 2017, collecting $ 15 million in private funding from international investors. Currently he is an owner of IndoorAtlas and a member of the board.
