You shall make sure well before your planned graduation that you have completed all the courses required for your degree. You can check the course requirements for each programme and class in the printed Study Guide.
For the purposes of the Master’s degree, you need to compose a Master’s thesis on the field of your major subject. The thesis should prove that you have acquainted yourself with the topic of the thesis, that you are capable of scientific thinking and that you have a good command of research methods. The final thesis approved by the supervisor shall be duplicated and provided with a cover page as instructed. The thesis is submitted to the Student Affairs Office at KTK254, where it is dispatched to the examiners. The final decision on the approval of the thesis is made by the Department Council based on the examiners’ proposal.
Based on the decision made by Department Council of the Department of Educational Sciences and Teacher Education (YN 3.6.2008/B14), Master's theses shall be provided with hard black covers as of August 1, 2008. The student shall make the arrangements and cover the cost to get his or her thesis equipped with such covers. Click here for details on the binding services available at the Oulu University Press.
A student getting prepared for either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree shall take the maturity test. The purpose of this test is to prove that you master written expression both in your field of research and in English. The maturity test is usually taken on a general examination day. You can only enrol for the test after your thesis has been approved for publication by your thesis supervisor.
The University of Oulu is using the Diploma Supplement developed in cooperation with the EU and the Ministry of Education. It is an English supplement to the degree certificate. Upon graduation, you are given automatically and without a charge a Diploma Supplement that shows the structure and extent of the degree, the courses taken by you and a description of the Finnish educational system.
