Legal Deposit Archive

The purpose of the entitlement to legal deposit copies is based on the Act on the Collecting and Preserving of Cultural Materials (1433/2007) is to preserve authentic cultural material for the use of future researchers and information seekers as well. Based on this legislation, all domestic printed publications, online materials, films and radio and television broadcasts are archived.

Oulu University Library became partially entitled to receive legal deposit copies at the beginning of the year 1961. Full entitlement to legal deposit copies was granted in 1981. The new act that entered into force in 2008 extended the right to domestic online material and radio and TV material as well.

The National Library of Finland and the National Audiovisual Archive (KAVA) are responsible for collecting the cultural material and making it available.
