Research Unit of Oral Health Sciences

The Unit of Oral Health Sciences at the Medical Faculty, University of Oulu is performing clinical and applied oral and dental research in collaboration with the other research units of the Faculty and with other domestic and international collaborating units.

The Unit of Oral Health Sciences publishes yearly about one hundred publications, 80% of which are international peer-reviewed publications.

The research topics of the Unit of Oral Health Science are interdisciplinary but partly related to different disciplines in dentistry. According to the strategy of the University of Oulu, the point in research has, however, been focused on The Northern Finland Birth Cohort Studies and on the other hand the use of high technology in the research of life long health and relations to oral health items.

The laboratory work in Oral Health Research is done in the common laboratory facilities located at Kontinkangas campus area, University of Oulu.

The Unit of Oral Health Sciences comprises seven disciplines headed by a professor. In combination with research, each discipline is responsible for the basic dental education of the field, as well as clinical and scientific postgraduate education.
