Registration and accommodation in Oulu. (Information on hotels and their prices will be presented in the second circular and on these web pages at the end of 2003.) Thursday 19.8. Plenary session with the main presentations (Venue: Main Building of the University of Oulu). Friday 20.8. Session work. Saturday 21.8. Field trip. The day begins with transportation to Kierikki Stone Age Centre in the village of Yli-Ii, about 50 km to the northeast of Oulu. This museum, with its modern popularisations of archeological work and aspects of northern Finnish Stone Age, allows the participants to take a closer view of the largest modern timbered building in Scandinavia and to explore the interactive exhibition housed in it. The Stone Age village of Kierikki, built on the banks of the river Ii, shows a reconstruction of the oldest terrace house in the world. We shall return to Oulu in the afternoon. Plenum and closing of conference. Conference banquet in the evening. Sunday 22.8. and Monday 23.8. Excursions either to the Kemi-Tornio region and to Raahe or a special two-day excursion to Kuusamo and Suomussalmi. |
