Oulu Business School's mentoring programme was initiated in 1996, and it has since developed into an annual programme covering all of our major disciplines. The programme is intended for both international and Finnish students, and it's partly carried out in English.
The mentoring programme aims to support the student with his/her study and career related decisions and career planning. Students have a mentor, with whom they discuss career-related topics. The mentor is usually a university alumnus/alumna, an experienced expert with a university degree.
Mentoring is based on private meetings between the student(s) and the mentor. The student is responsible for planning and preparing the meetings. Mentoring pairs discuss topics they find important, such as the mentor´s career choices and career development, required skills and Finnish working life. The programme facilitates networking among students, mentors and the business school.
Applying to the programme
Master’s degree students in ME, MF, FMA, IBM and MM are eligible to apply. Candidates need to be interested in career planning and motivated to self-development. They need to be ready to commit to the mentoring relationship. Please note that the number of participants may have to be restricted, depending on interest from students and potential mentors.
The mentoring programme starts in October-November 2016 and ends in April-May 2017. During the programme, the university will organise three meetings for all mentors and mentees. The mentor and mentee agree on private meetings, usually 3-8 during the programme.
