Safety instructions for outdoor work

Safety instruction

Cold weather

Use protective clothing and proper footwear especially on the ice, where the wind may considerably strenghten the effect of cold.

Cracks in the ice

Do not go alone on the ice. The staff can give closer safety instructions related to the season.

Drinking water

Recommended to carry with, but the sea water (low salinity) and the water in the small lakes and ponds can be drunk in emergency. Tap water is drinkable.

Getting lost

Use compass, map, GPS etc. especially when moving on the ice. 

Illness

Ask staff for help. Small pharmacy in Hailuoto.

Information

Always inform the staff your destination and estimated arrival

Insects

Use  mosquito deterrent or mosquito net in forest in June-July.

Onboard

Use life vest always. Operation of the motorboats allowed only with the staff.

On the road

Beware of moose especially when driving in twilight

Telecommunication

GSM-phones do not work far from the coast.
