This workshop is organized by Optoelectonics and Measurement Techniques Laboratory and Oulu Bioimaging Network, University of Oulu (Finland) and ITMO University (Russia).
The Laboratory has a long history of measuring human physiological vital functions. In addition to development of biomedical instrumentation, the research focus is on biophotonics and optical measurements. One of the focus areas is to study light-matter interactions of biological tissues as well as fabrication and characterization of tissue-mimicking phantoms. A growing research topic is the use of nanoparticles in biophotonic applications.
An actively developing area is printable electronics. There is a production line in the unit for research and to produce printable electrical components like phototransistors, solar cells and sensors on the transparent flexible substrates. In addition, new characterization and testing methods are being developed for printed electronics materials and components.
The variety of applications has led to co-operation not only with other units within the University of Oulu, but also on a global scale. Our partners are renowned international research teams, whose experts visit our unit on a regular basis and host our researchers.
Oulu BioImaging (OBI) collects the researchers, core facility experts and Ph.D. students at the University of Oulu and Oulu University Hospital under an umbrella where expertise, knowledge and equipment are presented and available to the scientific community in Oulu area. As a member of Biocenter Finland National Imaging Infrastructure Network (NIIN) and as an associated partner of Euro-BioImaging network it is a part of a large collaborative research infrastructure environment. Oulu BioImaging deploys distributed biological and technical imaging infrastructure facilities in a coordinated and harmonized manner.
Students participating in the school will have a possibility to earn 3 ECTS points, which shall be granted by their home university after providing PSS completion certificate.
